Bill Murray played football with 11-year-old co-star on set
Football became a metaphor for acting when “The Jungle Book” star Bill Murray and director Jon Favreau tossed around the pigskin with 11-year old newcomer Neel Sethi.
“It was a really amazing cast,” Neel told us at Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards in L.A. The excitable young star says that Murray (photo inset), an avid sports fan, showed leadership by taking on the role of quarterback.
“I saw a football, and I was staring at it, and he was like, ‘Do you like football?’ ” Neel recalls. “It was like a movie scene! I was like, ‘Yeah!’ and then we took it, went outside, and started throwing it to each other. He has a really good arm. He’s amazing!”
According to the young star, “He would tell me what route to run, and then I just tried to catch it.”
Neel says he caught “most of” Murray’s passes, but added that “some of them were like 40-mile bombs that I couldn’t catch.”
We’re also told that funnyman Murray nearly sacked the director once they put down the ball and grabbed a bite.
“Jon Favreau was choking because he was laughing, and he has a piece of brisket stuck in his lungs,” said Neel.
