No joke. Comedian Kathy Griffin is taking a page from New York’s Hometown Newspaper and calling Donald Trump on his BS.
“You guys are on your way to the Pulitzer. The way you take him on is, No. 1, necessary. No. 2, the fact that it bothers him is comedy gold,” said Griffin, whose standup tour plays New York City next month.
“I have known The Donald for years,” she told the Daily News’ Joe Dziemianowicz. “And that is what I’m so looking forward to talking about in, of all places, Queens and Brooklyn. Look, I just feel that you guys really get what’s happening with Trump in a way that no other newspaper understands.”
With two Emmys, a Grammy and a record-setting number of TV specials under her belt, the 55-year-old Griffin (photo inset) gets comedy. When her “Like a Boss” 80-city tour plays the Kupferberg Center in Queens on April 9 and the Brooklyn Center for Performing Arts on April 10, she’s spreading the punch lines around.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make fun of Hillary, too,” said Griffin, a staunch Clinton supporter. “I try to offend everybody.”
That includes Oscar-winners like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jane Fonda and Sean Penn. Recent encounters with all of them have been woven into the show as well as her upcoming book “Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins, an Index A to Z.”
Kris Jenner’s ex is also in Griffin’s cross hairs.
“There are plenty of jokes to be made about Caitlyn Jenner,” said Griffin. “Because finding out that Caitlyn Jenner … is basically Kylie (Jenner) is kind of a bummer. I’m just keeping it real as a supporter and someone who’s been immersed in the LGBT community for decades.
“The folks in the transgender community I’ve met are having very different struggles than Caitlyn and having to decide what Donatella Versace bag to take for the red carpet,” she added. “It’s comical.”
